Costume Materials
Garden Gnome is wearing a long sleeve blue shirt, green pants, a red knit cap and brown shoes. The vest is a burlap material, the belt is canvas and the belt buckle is cardboard. The beard is white cotton fabric. The baby mushroom is in a white onesie and pants, with a polka dot cap, which I sewed out of a flannel fabric.

Costume Instructions
I created the mushroom cap by first making a headband out of the fabric, then cutting out a big circle of fabric. I gathered up the circle and then hand stitched it to the band. For the gnome, I hand sewed the vest out of the burlap type material. I used standard white cloth belt material from the fabric store. I dyed it overnight in hot tea to give it the brownish color. Then I cut a belt buckle shape out of cardboard, and sponge painted it gold and brown. For the beard, I cut a wide rectangle out of white cotton fabric. I then made little cuts along both sides, then tore the fabric into strips, towards the center, leaving a 1" section on solid fabric down the middle. I ran elastic through the center section and gathered it all up. I made small button holes on the ends of the elastic strap, and attached it to the buttons I'd sewn on inside the red cap, right over his ears. Total cost for both costumes was $10 for materials, much of which I have leftover, as I bought way too much fabric.
