Costume Materials
Red and green fleece, scrap of white and brown fleece, brown embroidery thread, craft glue, two barettes, one floral wire, white turtleneck, Velcro.
Costume Instructions
Create each worm half by cutting a back and front piece slightly larger and longer than each sleeve of turtleneck. Round ends. Cover sleeves of turtleneck by sewing a running stitch along the outside edge of fleece and through the front half of turtleneck at the shoulder seam. Continue running stitch across rounded edge ONLY on front piece (so as not to close off the sleeve). Sketch an apple onto red fleece using turtleneck as a sizing guide; cut one front piece, and a second back piece with an extra 3" added to center. Cut the back piece down the center and align edges of apple front and back, allowing the extra length on back to form an overlap flap. Sew pieces together with a running stitch, leaving bottom, neck and arms open. Add running stitch to front ONLY at the openings to complete the line. Glue velcro to both sides of flap in back. Cut stripes for worm and face for worm from brown and white scraps; adhere with craft glue. Cut leaf and sew together with wire down the inside center (a running stitch down each side will keep it in place and make the "vein" of the leaf); sew on barettes. Add brown leggings or tights and you're good to go!
