Costume Materials
Batman is made of black and dark shiny gray lycra with yellow lycra trim. Superman is made of royal blue and red lycra with yellow lycra trim. 1/5 yard of white sheet material or light weight cotton is needed for the backing on the iron on transfers. Iron on transfers were purchased on ebay.

Costume Instructions
I roughly measured my boys lengths and freehand cut slim pants and used a rough pattern for the top part of the suit. The top part and pants were sewn together to form a long bodysuit, open at the back of the neck with a tie for easy on and off. Over shorts were fashioned after a pair of boys underwear with a bright yellow band at the top to simulate a superhero belt. Capes were cute in a large square and pleated on the sides and attached to the shoulder seams of the body suit, leaving the center of the cape free to assist in easy on and off of the bodysuit. I then cut the boots out using a sock for a pattern. For finishing touches I found iron on transfers online to use for the front. These had to be ironed on a light colored cotton fabric and then zigzagged to the costume.
