Costume Instructions

Prep Time: Several Hours

Costume Materials
These costumes were created from scratch with both machine and hand sewing. The measurements were taken to fit the person that would be wearing it.

We used several different fabrics, such as:
wood grain patterned knit
white fleece
light brown cotton/polyester
dark brown cotton/polyester

We also used:
stuffing
red and yellow cellophane
safety pins
battery tealights
1" foam
cardboard
batting
yard sticks
velcro

Costume Instructions
Campfire (Son): First, material that looks like wood was sewn into tubes or "logs" and stuffed. Then they were stacked into a fire ring and stitched together. Straps were then attached to hang the fire around the waist. To create the flames, red and yellow cellophane was attached with saftey pins and a battery operated, flickering tealight was set down into each "flame". He wore an orange shirt over the straps. And for an added effect, I spiked his hair and sprayed it with orange and yellow hair spray.

Marshmallow (Daughter): First a straight piece of foam with arm holes cut in the sides was covered with white fleece. The short ends were attached, by sewing, to create a circle. For the top, to help hold the circle shape, a circle was cut out of cardboard with a head hole in the middle. It was topped with batting and all covered in white fleece. The top was then sewn to the foam circle. She wore a white turtleneck and sweat pants underneath with white bows in her hair.

Graham Cracker w/ Chocolate (Dad): First, light brown material was cut into 4 giant squares. Two of the squares were sewn together with batting in the middle and a yard stick across the top for strength. This was done twice to create the front cracker and back cracker. To create the dimples in the crackers, thread was pulled through from front to back and knotted. The chocolate was made by putting some batting between 2 squares of dark brown material. Then it was sewn to create the rectangles of chocolate like a half of a candy bar. Next, the chocolate was sewn onto the graham cracker. Straps were then made with the light brown material to hang on his shoulders like a sandwich board. Velcro was used to keep the sides together.

Girl Scout (Mom): Wore her old Girl Scout uniform from when she was a Senior Girl Scout.
