Family Group Costumes

The boys are transformers. Two, Ironhide (The black truck) and Ratchet (The green hummer) are from the movie, and Jetfire (the airplane) is an oldschool transformer from the 1980's. They are robots when they stand up, but they are their respective "vehicles" when they transform.

Costume Instructions
The two trucks were made from Styrofoam and cardboard. Each cutout, hooked together, and then covered in a fiberglass resin. We wired kid-size backpacks inside of the costumes to make them wearable. We then painted them and added all the details. Ironhide's smokestacks and ratchets top rack were both constructed from PVC pipe. We also inserted working touch lights on the front of the trucks. Wheels were wired on Ironhide, but Ratchets back wheels are worn on my son's legs. We also used some vinyl decals to add finishing touches.

For Jetfire we used a template that I created and drew on some foamboard. He was the easiest of the costumes. I freehand painted his stripes, and we added vinyl decals again for effect.
He has two shooters on the backpack that were created from a toilet paper roll and a paper towel roll.

All the boys have shirts that have the Transformer decals added on. I just stuck them on and ironed over them to try and heat set.
