Costume Instructions
Being an experienced sewer or one with moderate experience may be needed. For all costumes: refer to patterns above for each costume and cut out corresponding size (you know: what will fit each individual *wink*). Follow enclosed directions for construction. Except for Elizabeth Swann costume.
For Tia Dalma: have all materials ready. You will need to cut out and sew three separate skirts, hem each one, then layer the skirts together and baste along waistline seam (a little less than 5/8”). Tia Dalma wears a “coat” in the film however my daughter is a toddler so I figured I could make a “falsie”. After I sewed the top together and attached the skirts, I added the holey material (after having been spray painted with fabric paint and dried) to the bodice. I then added the gathered wine colored ruffle to the edge of the back neckline and “faked” where the “coat” would be (look at picture). I hand sewed the tassel fringe to the front neckline (ends under the coat ruffle). Finally I made the “belt” out of a couple pieces of left over vinyl from my Liz Swann costume, painted some decoration on it with red puffy paint, added shells using E6000 glue, glued some string for belt ends and lined the back with leftover wine material. From there I hand sewed the belt to the waistline under the ruffle to give the illusion of a full belt.
Will Turner: Followed the directions as per pattern company listed above. But to make the costume more like Will Turner’s I added a collar and put buttonhole trim on both sides of the jacket. I also added real pockets where there were none. Made pants out of brown material and bought multi striped fabric for his sash and sewed together. Couldn’t find material decent enough for boot tops so just purchased them instead and spray-painted black (fabric spray paint). He wears regular shoes underneath boot tops. I made his necklace out of Fimo and 2mm leather cord.
