I decided to make my kids the characters from Alice in Wonderland. We have Alice, The White Rabbit & Of Course the Mad Hatter! Alice with her classic blue dress and pinafore, black bow band & black mary janes. White rabbit with his furry bodied self, glasses, waist coat, vest, bowtie & don't forget the watch! I'M LATE! The Mad Hatter consists of about the same as the white rabbit minus the furry suit and add some funky pants and a great top hat with a 10/6 fraction stiched on. There you have it! I even went as Tweedle DO & Daddy went as Tweedle Don't because he don't wear a costume! HEE HEE!
Costume Instructions
Prep Time: It took approximately 20 hrs
Costume Materials
White Rabbit: McCalls pattern MP225 & pattern McCalls 8701.
White Fleece or Fur for rabbit in white and a little pink for ears. Elastic for cuffs. Velcro for securing hood! I added some boning to the hood and foam to the ears so that they would stand up nicely. For the waist coat & vest I used the 8701 pattern and some fun polka dot cotton, cotton was also used for the bowtie. Buttons and interfacing. Purchased pocket watch & glasses.
Mad Hatter: McCalls Pattern 8701 was used for the whole outfit. I used the funkiest plaid I could find for the suit coat in cotton, cotton for vest and bowtie as well. Red Sweat pants, white cotton, felt, Interfacing, buttons. Top hat
Costume Instructions
White Rabbit: First I sewed the White Rabbit costume according to the pattern. I used White furry fleece for mine for less of a mess than fur! I changed the pattern a bit by adding foam and boning to ears so that they would stand up nicely. Then I used the other McCalls pattern to make the rest of the costume - I followed all instructions on pattern and made it one size bigger than my daughter wears so that it would fit over her rabbit costume. We added her glasses and pocket watch and she was a show stopper. This one was my favorite and took the longest since it was really two costumes in one.
Mad Hatter: I used the same pattern as the white rabbit costume for the waist coat and vest. I just followed all instructions and used the funkiest fabrics I could find in my stash as the Mad Hatter is just that MAD! WE had a top hat and I stitched felt 10/6 to the white fabric and put the stiffest interfacing I could find inside of it so it would stand upright. He wore his own fun red sweatpants and voile there you have a Mad Hatter.
GOOD LUCK and EnJOY!
