Costume Instructions

Prep Time: 8 hours

Costume Materials
Grapes: green leotard, green tights, green balloons. Brown ribbed jersey, green felt, pipe cleaners for cap.

Apple: red fabric, red tights, red shirt, and stuffing. Brown ribbed jersey, green felt for cap.

Banana: yellow fabric, brown fabric, yellow shirt, yellow tights, velcro, wire, stuffing.

Costume Instructions
Grapes: green leotard, green tights, green balloons pinned on. Ribbed jersey cap, cut in a square and sewed on 3 sides with one more horizontal seam across the top to give it shape. Add a leaf made with 2 layers of felt cut to shape and veins sewed in to hold it together. Sew to cap and loop pipe cleaner tendrils through the top.

Apple: Cut 2 big circles sized to the child. Sew together at shoulders, leave armhole openings. Sew down to thigh level leaving enough of an opening at the bottom to put it on. Make a short vertical opening in the back of the neck so it can go over the child's head. Use ribbon to secure there and at the crotch. Create cap using the same instructions written for the grapes cap leaving out the tendrils. Stuff with whatever you have available - we used plastic grocery sacs.

Banana: Cut 3 crescents about a foot across at the widest part. Figure out approximately where the child's face opening will be and how long the torso is (I just had her lay on the floor and drew the pattern). Be sure to have about 12 inches of fabric above the face for the top of the banana. Sew the 3 crescents together, but in the last seam that connects the three you should only sew down as far as shoulder level. The front of the costume will be the flat face of the three sides - put it on and cut out face hole and arm holes. Figure out where the leg holes will need to be and cut those as well. Leave an opening at least 2 feet on the side. Stitch to the bottom of the banana and attach velcro in the opening to close it. Cut a brown stem about 6 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. Sew, stuff, stiffen with a piece of wire, and stitch to the top of banana. It's easiest to get into the banana starting from the head, then arms, then legs, then stuff and secure the velcro.
