Family Group Costumes

This is an old English Pram that I turned into a Rockin' 50's Diner. My husband and I dressed up as customers in 50's attire, our 3 month old son was the "Blue Plate Special", and our 3 year old son was the "short" order cook. It was fun to make and great to wear.

Costume Instructions

Prep Time: 12 hours

Costume Materials
I used cardboard, poster board, felt, fleece, fiber fill, paint, markers, and party supplies ( plastic records, pictures, etc ). I used wire, tape and glue to keep everything attached.

Costume Instructions
First off measure the surface that you will be using as a support for the props. I used an antique English pram for mine. I measured the cardboard to fit on top of the tire fenders and the same length of the body of the pram. I cut 2 of the cardboard pieces for a floor. I then glued 2 pieces of white poster board to cover the brown card board. Next I cut 2 cardboard pieces to fit each side and 2 pieces to fit the ends of the pram. I covered them in the white poster board as well. On top of the pram I cut 1 piece of cardboard to make the counter top. I also covered that in the white poster board. Next I used 2 cake boards to make the plates on the counter top. I painted the outside edge of the "plate" with blue paint to make the "Blue Plate Special".

I made the eggs out of white fleece, the yolks out of yellow felt and the center is filled with fiber fill. The bacon and toast is card board covered with felt. The home fries are done with burlap and fiber fill.

I simply painter a black line along the top of each side and the 2 end pieces. I then added the decorations for flare. The floor is painter with black and white squares. The counter top is painted gray and I used sliver glitter glue for shine and sparkle.

I also made 2 stools for each floor piece. I used 4 12" cake boards, 4 pieces of poster board for the "collar" of the stool, 4 pieces of white poster board rolled up and painted gray for the post of the stool and a piece of jute cord to go around the edge of the stool.

The awning is made out of 1 sheet of red poster board for the body, 1 sheet of red cut up for the 2 sides, and a sheet of white for the stripes.
