Easy-to-Make Halloween Costumes

Miss America costume was designed by my sister using the idea of an actual Miss America. The purple dress was sewn to fit my daughter, the cape is also hand sewn and created just for this costume. We did purchase the crown, jewelry, gloves, shoes, and had the sash created for her by a professional sash maker. The bouquet completes the costume and my daughter feels like a queen.

Costume Instructions

Prep Time: Cape - 10 min., Dress 2 hrs

Costume Materials
Any dress can be used, or you can pick a pattern that your daughter likes.
The cape is one piece of fabric, with a sequen type ribbon that can be bought at the store to give it some glam.

Shoes, crown, jewelry, gloves, flowers were bought at different online and local stores. The sash was also made by a professional, but one could be made out of some white fabric.

Costume Instructions
Make sure the dress isn't too long or they might trip while trick or treating (and if you have cute shoes you want to be sure to show them off). Also the dress doesn't have to be perfect if you aren't the best seamstress - the cape to help keep the trick or treater warm will hide a lot of it.

The crown we used is an actual pageant crown and thus was quite heavy. To secure it to my daughter's head I wrapped some craft wire around parts of the frame and then used hair clips to secure hair to the wire.

Remember - this costume can be easy or hard depending on how you decide to do the dress. The key parts are a sash stating Miss America or Miss (State), and the crown the rest just helps make it more and more fun.
