Brief Description:

Tyler has a great fascination tornados, especially after living in OK for a year. Now he is a Storm Chasers fanatic. A tornado seemed like a perfect fit for this energy-filled 7 year old.

The main structure is an upside-down tomato cage, with one section cut out to allow for walking. A hula hoop was attached to the top with tape and tipped at an angle. A muslin covering was then added. 2 shoulder straps were added to hold the tornado on Tyler's shoulders. The tornado was then wrapped in cotton batting, netting, and cheese cloth using hot glue and thread.

The base "debris" was made out of black, purple, tan netting swirled around and attached with thread. The cars and trees were attached with tape to the 4 wires of the tomato cage (which were bent upward). Then I added animals and fences with floral wire.

Lastly, arm holes were cut into the sides.

Slip in an awesome kid and tear down the street for a great night of trick-or-treating!

Contest Photo Tips and Guidelines:
  • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your gingerbread house or holiday cookie is the star!
  • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
  • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
  • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
