Hot Buttered Rum
Hands-On Time: 5min
Ready In: 5min
Yield: 1
A hot mug of rum has been served to warm a soul, ever since rum made its way to the New World. This gently spiced version is the perfect drink on a cold winter's night. Serve it while you trim the tree, or after you return from a day of skating, sledding or skiing. Top with freshly whipped cream, stir with a cinnamon stick and sip... by a roaring fire, of course.
Ingredients
Simple syrup is very easy to prepare. Place equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan and heat until sugar is dissolved. The mixture lasts a week or so in the fridge. You can also heat the mixture in the microwave.
Directions
- Equally divide the rum, simple syrup and the cider between two Irish coffee mugs or other mugs.
- Place 1 teaspoon of butter in each mug. Pour the boiling water equally between the two mugs and stir to combine.
- Garnish with the cinnamon sticks and top with whipped cream and a pinch of nutmeg. Serve immediately.
