You can have some fun making 5-a-side soccer teams from Rice Krispies.
Ingredients
Chocolate Orange Players
White Chocolate Players
For the Soccer Field
For the Soccer Shirts
For Goal Posts, Center Circle and Lines
Directions
- Put the orange chocolate, unsalted butter, and golden syrup into a small saucepan. Put the white chocolate, unsalted butter, and syrup into a separate saucepan. Cook over a low heat for a few minutes, stirring occasionally until melted. Alternatively these could be melted in a microwave in short bursts, stirring between each burst.
- Measure the oats, Rice Krispies, and cocoa powder into a mixing bowl. Pour over the melted chocolate orange mixture and mix until all of the oats and Rice Krispies are coated. Repeat with the melted white chocolate mixture and remaining oats, Rice Krispies, and confectioners' sugar.
- Wet the inside of two 7 x 11 inch cake pans with cold water. Line both pans with plastic wrap and leave some extra to overhang the pan (this will make it easier to remove the mixture once it is set). Press the Rice Krispie mixture into the pans and press down using a potato masher to level the surfaces. Place in the refrigerator for about 1 hour to firm up. Tip the pans upside down onto cutting boards and peel the plastic wrap away. Cut out 5 dark chocolate men and 5 white chocolate men using a 3-inch gingerbread man cutter. You can press the excess mixture back into the pan to set again so that you can make a whole team.
- Take a small amount of the left over white chocolate Rice Krispie mixture and form it into a football. Melt the bittersweet chocolate in a microwave for about a minute and using a small paint brush, paint the black markings onto the football.
- While the Rice Krispie mixture is setting in the refrigerator, you can make the soccer pitch. Mix the coconut and the green food color together in a large re-sealable bag to make the grass. Using a pastry brush, spread apricot jam over the cake board and sprinkle over the green coconut and press down until the board is covered.
- Arrange the Twizzlers to make the lines and center circle on the pitch (you will need to cut some of the Twizzlers into shorter lengths to make the circle and may need to warm them for 3-4 seconds in a microwave to soften them and help them bend). Join some Twizzlers together using melted chocolate for the goal posts. You will need to cut the ends off two of the Twizzlers diagonally and use these to prop up the goal posts.
-
Roll out the red and yellow rolled fondant icing and using the same gingerbread man cutter, make football shirts for each member of the team (simply cut off the heads and cut to the waist to make the shirts.) Stick the shirts onto the players and give them each a number using the gel icing tubes. Also, give them eyes and a mouth using the icing tubes. Arrange the players on the pitch, position the ball and blow the whistle...
