Ranch Dressing
The old favorite, Hidden Valley, is available at every supermarket I've ever been in — but if you feel like making your own, here's my recipe. Used as a dip with veggies and fish sticks, this dressing will help keep your toddler busy in her high chair so you can have a few minutes of mealtime peace.
Hands-On Time: 5 minutes
Ready In: 5 minutes
Yield: 1/2 cup
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup buttermilk (or plain low-fat yogurt)
2 teaspoons each sugar and cider vinegar
1 clove garlic, minced (or 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder if your kids like a milder taste)
1/2 teaspoon each fresh dill, chopped, and fresh parsley, minced
Salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
Sprinkling of paprika
- In a small bowl, whisk together all ingredients. Or, if you want to give your toddler an easy task, hand him the ingredients in a well-sealed plastic container and tell him to shake, shake, shake them! Chill dressing for at least an hour and a half before serving.
