Castles and Crown Cake Recipes for your Princess
Colleen's Cake for Gracie 2008

Recipe Ingredients
I used standard box cake mix, depending on your princess's favorite flavor. You will need eggs, oil, water and several colors of buttercream frosting (or frosting of your choice). Sugar flakes were used to make the towers glisten. I also used the Wilton Romantic Castle Cake Set for the pre-made reusable columns and accents.
Instructions
I baked two square cakes. The bottom one is a minimum of 2" larger than the top cake. The smaller was set on top. No supports were needed between layers.
Put a base layer of frosting on the cakes and begin placing the columns where you like. Let your imagination run wild. The kit comes with several columns, not all are necessary. The kit also comes with doors and windows, add where you like.
Use several different tips to create to look that is desired. I used the grass tip to add the extra effect of grass around the castle. I have included a picture from a side angle so that you can see 2 sides of detail.
Tips for Taking a Great Photo:
- Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your cake is the star!
- Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash. To brighten up your space for non-flash photos,
- You can use a silver platter or other reflective surface under your cake.
- Try shooting your cake at a slight angle to give it a sense of depth and perspective. Find the most interesting element and make it a focal point.
- Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
- For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
- With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
