Thanksgiving Table Talkers
Wow! The whole family will be gathered around the table this year... grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins are coming in from all corners of the country! What a great opportunity to catch up with everyone! But these occasions fly by as time is limited. So here's a wowza of an idea to make the most of your time together and expedite the "catch up" process!
Materials:
Pine cones of different sizes
Twigs
Pipe cleaners
Feathers, felt and other doodads you deem useful
Heavy paper
Markers
Glue
Photographs featuring "family heads" that are approximately 2"
Instructions:
- Pick a pine cone and lay it on its side... this is your turkey's body. Add pipe cleaner feet, feathered wings and tail, and cut out a turkey head from heavy paper and decorate it with markers and doodads. Don't forget the gobbler just below the turkey's chin!
- Next, cut out a picture of yourself and attach it to the twig and then fasten it to the turkey to look like he/she is holding a sign. Make one turkey for every guest. Arrange the gobblers as a centerpiece or you can even use them as place cards to show everyone where to sit.
- Once the gravy's been poured, go round and round the table giving everyone a turn to tell what they were thinking or what was happening when the picture was taken. This is a great conversation starter that will certainly elicit questions and giggles!
- Be sure to appoint a family historian to record the stories in a notebook for posterity!
