Chalkboard Vases
The very name says it all: Thanksgiving... giving thanks! So here's a fun way for everyone in the family to take a moment to think about and share just what they're thankful for!
Materials:
A clear, glass vase
Chalkboard spray paint (black or green)
A piece of heavy card stock-- junk mail will do the trick!
Chalk (*Note: If you want the messages to last, consider using a silver or gold art marker)
Instructions:
- Go outside and set up a work area replete with fresh air-- spray painting is fume'y business! Place newspaper on your work surface to protect it. Place your vase upside down on the piece of card stock. Spray as directed on the paint can. For ease of turning the vase, grab a corner of the card stock and spin. Spray, spin, repeat. Like shampooing but different...
- Let it dry for 24 hours.
- Next, bring your vase inside and fill it with flowers, autumn boughs or a homemade bouquet. Place your creation in a central location so that all holiday visitors will see it. Invite family and friends to pick up a piece of chalk and write a word or two of thanks.
- As everyone is gathered around the table for the big feast, read each word aloud, allowing a moment for that word's author to elaborate on their idea. A great way to send a cozy message around the family quickly! And the vase can be erased and re-used for the next holiday or for any ol' day when you want to get a conversation going!
