Throw a Fun-draiser
Here's a two-for-one: becoming community-minded while also fostering that entrepreneurial spirit! Now that's a big mouthful for what will be a day of fun for kids! I'm talking about raising money for a good cause via a kid-run creative business venture! Let's combine the classic lemonade stand with an art show where profits go to a favorite charity of your family's choice.
YOU'LL NEED KID-MADE WORKS OF ART:
- Paintings
- Drawings
- Sculptures
- Mobiles
- Collages
TO DO:
The art to be displayed for sale can be gathered a couple of ways:
- Send out a call for action asking other children if they'd like to donate an original work of art to a good cause.
- Host an art afternoon for your child and their friends where they may create artworks specifically for the charity art show.
SET-UP:
Spread the news! Send out an announcement via e-mail and/or post signs in your neighborhood a week ahead of time with all the details. For example:
Please Come to Our First Annual Charity Art Show
"Art from the Heart"
Saturday, December 3
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
234 Oak Road
Profits from all sales go to support:
The Children's Hospital
Come on over! Bring friends!
Select an area for the event like your yard, house or even the school playground keeping "display areas" and "weather" in mind.
Display the art with cards listing the artist's name, the title, medium and price. For ease, I suggest having your kids come up with set a price for all works. Say, $5 each as this keeps it easy.
Set up a lemonade-type stand to sell lemonade or hot chocolate and cookies to your guests.
Have the kids dress up as famous artists or works of art. (Dress-up is certainly not just for Halloween and I suggest creating a good excuse to do it at least once a month!)
Have the kids organize each other in to the different roles: Event Greeter, Art Seller, Lemonade Stand Manager, Crowd Promoter, MC, etc.
This is going to be great fun and will reap great rewards all around! Go for it!
