A New Twist on Recess
Riiii-ing! That's the recess bell. Now, watch the kids dash outside knowing what awaits them.... free time and fresh air! Oh, and a surprise is in store: a new twist on an old classic because I'm turning hopscotch on its ear!
Here's what you need:
- Colored chalk
- Playground surface (or sidewalk or safe driveway)
- Ingenuity
As I did with Roxy and Lola, launch kids into this game with a few ideas to get them thinking in a new and different way: 3-2-1 blast off and up and over the river! Once they see what you're doing they can take over. The landing spots can be inspired by a movement, like "walk like a chicken," a talent like "recite a poem" or "sing like an opera star," or a goofy challenge like "balance on one leg and shout three of your favorite things." Really, the possibilities are endless. What will your gang think up?
And to reinvigorate the new game, add more spots or redefine the current spots with additional directions and/or details. When you need a new game, just wait for the rain to provide you with a fresh canvas.
