Spring has Sprung!
Spring a surprise of fresh and artsy flowers on a terrific friend, teacher, neighbor or family member. A flowery way to express, "Thanks for being you!"
Flower Baskets for Artsy Flowers
Materials:
- heavy paper 9" x 12" or larger for a good-sized basket (of course, smaller dimensions to make a wee basket)
- long paper strips- solid or printed or even "junk" mail
- ribbon and/or yarn (both optional)
- pipe cleaners
- beads
- oil pastels (or markers or crayons)
- stapler
- scissors
- hole punch
Basket
Select a piece of paper and fold each edge an equal measure, for example with larger sheets of paper you may fold 2" or more on each side.
Next, cut vertical slits around the four sides
Weave paper, ribbon, yarn strips in and out of the slits making at least three woven rows on all sides. As you weave, push the strip down to make room for the next strip above. This will make your basket sturdier.
Fold each corner and staple.
Add a decorated handle made from heavy paper (to reinforce the handle, fold the paper into two or three layers).
Now to add the flowers-- you may wish to pick a bouquet from your own yard or make your own arrangement.
Flowers
Cut flower shapes from heavy paper... all different varieties and sizes for a wildflower-looking-bunch!
Add details to the petals with oil pastels (or markers or crayons)
Hole punch the center to poke a pipe cleaner stem through. Secure it in place by making the flower's center by beading the pipe cleaner and twisting it in a spiral. Add one more bead underneath the flower to keep the stem from slipping out the top.
Gather the bunch and arrange them in the basket.
For a final touch, add a note of surprise or thanks or love and deliver it to a friend or family member!
