I also enjoy the mall, but since he is older we are going out bf it gets to late and see older kids. But also we want every year a diffrent one for him.

I use to take my kids to the storefronts on the "Square" in our town or the mall. It was safer and the experience was much more enjoyable for them. Now that they are a little older, they like to stay in and eat junk food and watch a scary movie or whatever Halloween Special is on television that night.

A few years ago Halloween fell on a Sunday night. Some of the parents suggested a parade as the number of kids in the neighborhood were increasing. The parade ended with a pot luck in one of the nieghbor's driveway.

The tradition continues and even if it Halloween is not on the weekend we still have the parade and pot luck. We foudn the parade (very short) is held early enough in the evening that everyone can see all the great costumes. For the older neighbors who don't participate they get their chairs out and wave to the kids as they parade past. It works well for the parents who won't have to rush home from work to get their kids out for Halloween. After the snacks and nibbles fill the kids and adults up and allows us all to chat with the neighbors. The kids love it because they get to dress twice, once for the parade and once for the true Halloween date.

It is great to get the whole neighborhood involved.
