Chinese Takeout Costume
My daughter wanted to think of the most random thing possible that in some way related to her, so Chinese take-out seemed like the perfect fit! Basically, we just used an old carboard box that was lying around and pasted paper on the outside.
Prep Time: 1 hour (mostly from measuring)
Costume Materials
- 1 large cardboard box
- a computer that has a printer, printer ink, and microsoft word
- glue or glue stick
- 2 hangers
- bread bag ties
- measure the length, width, and height of the box (try to record these measurements somewhere)
- use any computer program you prefer for a clip art picture of a pagoda
- divide your clip art picture into four seperate sections that matches the dimensions of the box (this is the most confusing, time-consuming, and hardest part of this project)
- print each section on a seperate sheet of paper four times
- put together and paste each section of paper on the box
- choose two opposite faces of the box (must be one of the sides)
- (this next step is only if you have extra cardboard lying around) on a seperate sheet of cardboard, cut a four long triangles that don't exceed more than 1/4 of the side of the box
- paste each triangle on the opposing sides (this is to make it look like the folds you see on the sides of a chinese take-out box)
- bend a 3 wire hangers to look like 2 halves of a handle
- poke a small hole on the sides with the triangles and bend the wires to have them stay in the holes
- secure the other ends together with bread bag ties to make it look like a handle
- on the flaps of the box, paste plain white paper
- add any other embellishments you feel are necessary (chopstickes in your hair, chinese dragon clip-art on the triangles, etc.) and you're done!
