Costume Materials
- Green fabric for the shirt
- Brown fabric for the pants and belt
- Green felt for the hat
- Brown felt for the boot covers, collar, quiver and arrow feathers
- 1/4 inch dowel for the arrows
- Cardboard tube
- Scrap newspaper
- Curved stick or wood for bow
- Elastic band or string
- To make the shirt: Using the green fabric, trace the outline of a t-shirt which fits your child and leave about a half inch extra material for a seam allowance. Cut out two pieces of fabric using that pattern and sew or stitch together. Roll the arm, neck, and body edges in and sew or stitch to finish the edges
- To make the pants: Similar to the shirt, trace the outline of a pair of pants which fit your child. Cut out two pieces of fabric and sew together to make the pants
- To make the hat: Using some scrap newspaper, create a pattern that looks like a cone with a rounded bottom. Cut out two pieces of green felt and sew together. Roll the bottom edge up to make the brim of the hat.
- To make the quiver: Start with a cardboard tube (the stiffer, the better). Fill one end of the quiver with stuffed newspaper or a plug made from styrofoam. This will help hold the arrows in place. Lay the tube on a piece of brown felt and cut a piece big enough to roll around the entire tube. Leave it a little longer than the tube so that you can fold the felt inside the end of the tube to finish it off. Cover the tube in glue and cover the tube with the felt. Cut a circle to cover the bottom of the tube. Glue in place. Make a strap from the brown felt for the quiver and glue it to each end of the tube.
- To make the arrows: Make a pattern from a piece of paper or cardboard for the shape of the arrow fletching (feathers). Cut out two pieces of felt for each arrow. Cut a piece of the dowel to the length you desire and glue one end sandwiched between two of the felt feather pieces. Press together and allow them to dry. When the arrows are done, stick them into the quiver and secure them with more stuffed newspaper or foam to hold them into place.
- To make the boot covers: Using a pair of shoes or boots as a pattern, trace a boot shape on the brown felt. Leave about a half inch extra for a seam allowance and leave extra material at the top of the boot so it can be folded down. The bottom of the boots and the back of the boots will be left open. Cut out the pattern (two for each boot) and stitch together. Use small pieces of elastic or safety pins to fasten the back of the boots around the child's leg. The bottom of the boot cover needs two pieces of elastic that go across the bottom to hold the cover in place over their shoes but allows easy removal.
- To make a bow: Use a curved stick or piece of wood and tie a string or elastic piece to make the bow.
- Finish off the costume with a belt made of the brown fabric or felt.
