Costume Instructions
Head:
- Cut the cardboard to form the elongated nose shape of the zebra's head. Glue onto the bill of the baseball cap.
- Cover the cap and cardboard with striped fabric. Wrap the fabric for the cardboard bill underneath too. You can sew or glue the fabric on.
- Use striped fabric to make a cape for the cap (like a desert cap). Make sure you have enough fabric at the bottom to close up under the child's chin. Sew onto the cap.
- Use black felt to form the zebra's nose. Bunch up the felt to form nostrils. Use cotton stuffing to hold shape of the nose.
Shirt:
- Trace 2 long-sleeve shirt patterns onto the striped fabric. Make sure they are oversized since they will be sewn together to make the shirt.
- Hem the neckline and sleeve ends. Flip sewn shirt inside out to hide the seams.
Pants:
- Trace 2 pants patterns onto the striped fabric making sure they're oversized. Sew the 2 pants halves together.
- Hem the waistline, folding over material to allow threading a string through for a drawstring.
- Hem the ends of the pant legs.
Hooves:
(for sleeves)Cut out tapered rectangular shapes from the black felt so they will look like hooves when you sew the ends together making small cylinders. Sew the hooves onto the sleeves.
(for pants)
Cut out 4 large 3/4 ovals to form the hooves for the pants. Sew 2 of these together, leaving room at the end to insert card board cut in the same shape. Sew onto the front of the pants. The hooves will cover the shoe tops.
Tail:
- Cut out 2 long thin rectangles for the tail from the striped fabric. Sew together leaving room to put in cotton stuffing. Flip inside out and stuff.
- Cut thin strips of black felt to make the end of the tail. Sew these black strips onto the end of the tail.
- Sew the tail onto the back of the pants.
