Halloween
160x600

Makenna, 7, thinks this easy-to-paint feline face is just the cat's meow. After seeing herself, she decided to change her Butterfly costume plans this Halloween. Follow our professional makeup artist's tips below and your child will be the cutest kitty on the block.

Cat Face Painting Step One

Step One

With the sponge pinched, apply white makeup on the eyelid all the way up to the brow. Extend the white makeup above the outer half of the eyebrow in the shape of cat eyes, as shown. Using circular motions, paint the top of the lip extending out beyond the lip line, as shown. Add a little blush to the cheeks.

Step Two

Using a small- or medium-sized paintbrush and starting at the inner corner of the eye, outline the inner edge of the white shape giving it a little curl on top, as shown. Make this black line in one smooth, quick stroke (see our Makeup Tricks & Tips). Outline the other side of the white shape with two black lines — one from the top of the white shape to the eyebrow, the other from the eyebrow to the outer eye. Draw two or three black eyelashes from the corner of the eye. Use a cotton swab to remove unwanted black smudges.

Step Three

Start the whiskers by drawing a line from the ball of the nose to the middle of the top lip. Make a small triangle in the middle of the top lip, as shown. Outline the white shape in black and paint the bottom lip black. With quick, single strokes, paint three whiskers on each side of the kitten's face, as shown.

Trick: Put your hand on top of your child's head for stability when painting.
Cat Face Painting Outfit

The Outfit

Dress your kitten in black tights or leggings and a long-sleeved black shirt. Black gloves with sewn-on white fur fabric adds a nice touch, as does a furry vest and black bow-tie.

To bring you these face-painting tips, professional make-up artist Elizabeth Villamarin shared her bag of tricks with writer Grace Ganssle.
