Having 15 Dalmatians of her own and adopting 84 more, Perdita would have no shortage of puppy pictures in her family album. Inspired by the distinctive coats of this dapper canine and her brood, this easy-to-make frame is perfect for spotlighting one of your own photos or a piece of artwork you'd like to give Mom on her special day.

You'll need:

  • Picture frame template
  • Scissors
  • Craft knife
  • Pencil
  • Thin cardboard
  • White acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush or foam brush
  • Tacky glue
  • Black buttons
Instructions:

1. Print the templates. Cut out the pieces and trace them onto the thin cardboard.

2. Cut out the tracings. It will be easier to cut the inner portion from the frame front if you first use the craft knife to make an opening in the cardboard for the scissors to fit through (an adult's job). Step 2

3. Paint the frame pieces white and let them dry.

4. Spread glue along the side and bottom edges but not the top of the frame back. Then place the frame front on top of it, pressing down firmly to stick it to the frame back. Step 4
5. Bend the stand about an inch from the top. Then glue the top of the stand to the back of the frame, as shown. Step 5

6. For the finishing touch, glue black buttons onto the frame face to create a random pattern of spots — just like a Dalmatian's. Then slip a photo or a piece of artwork into the frame from the top.
