As intriguing to look at as it is to listen to, this wind chime is a breeze to make. You'll need a metal colander and 6 or so old kitchen utensils -- the perfect excuse for a family outing to a tag sale or thrift store.
| Prep Time: Under 1 hour | |
| What you need: | |
| Length of monofilament
Spatula Slotted spoons Whisk Vegetable peeler Drink strainer Apple slicer | |
| Seasons: Year round | |
| Materials: garden tools | |
| Instructions: | |
| 1. | To assemble the chime, thread a 30-inch length of monofilament through each item so that you have a double line (as you would if you were threading a needle). |
| 2. | Knot the line above the item several times and then slide on a few beads. (The knot should be big enough to keep the bead from sliding down to rest directly on the utensil, where it can alter the sound of the chime.) |
| 3. | Insert the doubled line up through a hole in the colander and slide on another bead. Again, tie the line above the bead to create a knot that's too big to pull back through. |
| 4. | Once all the items are attached, simply tie the ends of
another piece of monofilament to the handles of the colander, and
your wind chime is ready to hang.
