While your child is getting ready for school this fall, you can help her turn last year's too-short jeans into spiffed-up capris with some interchangeable decorative trim.
| Prep Time: About 2 to 3 hours | |
| What you need: | |
| Jeans
Scissors Sew-on Velcro Fabric glue Ribbon or decorative beaded trim | |
| Seasons: Year round | |
| Materials: jeans, Velcro | |
| Instructions: | |
| 1. | First, help her cut the pant legs to the desired length.
Use a measuring tape to find the circumference of one of the leg
bottoms, then, for each leg, cut a strip of sew-on Velcro that's
at least 1 inch longer. |
| 2. | Sew (by hand or with a machine) the loop side of the Velcro strip to the bottom of the pant leg, folding the edge of the jeans under to prevent fraying. |
| 3. | Next, use fabric glue to fix ribbon and decorative beaded or fringed trim (available at fabric stores) to the back of the hook side of the Velcro strip, covering it completely. Add a bit of fabric glue to the ends of the ribbon and the trim to prevent fraying. |
| 4. | Once it's dry, she can attach the trim to the pant legs and
sport her new style. (To keep the fringe intact, remember to
remove it before washing the pants.) |
