You don't need a wraparound porch or even a flagpole to hang our compact version of the Stars and Stripes--a front door will do fine.

| 7/8-inch-wide grosgrain ribbon (in red, white, and blue)
Fabric glue Ruler, paint stirrer, or 12-inch-long scrap of thin wood White-and-silver pom-poms Button or penny | |

| Instructions: | |
| 1. | Cut ribbon into the following lengths: four red, 14 1/2 inches long; three white, 14 1/2 inches long; seven blue, 10 1/2 inches long; three red, 24 inches long; three white, 24 inches long. |
| 2. | Leaving a 1/2-inch overlap, attach the shorter red and
white strips to the blue strips with glue (we used fabric glue,
but other adhesives intended for cloth should also work), laying
the blue strips on top.

| 3. | Glue the strips to a ruler, paint stirrer, or 12-inch-long
scrap of thin wood in a flag pattern, then cover the stirrer with
a blue ribbon.

| 4. | For stars, glue 13 small white-and-silver pom-poms to the
blue ribbons in a circle. Trim the bottom of each ribbon with
pinking shears and glue a button or penny to the reverse side for
weight.

| 5. | To hang the flag from a metal door or mailbox, hot-glue a
strip of magnetic tape to the back of the ruler. Alternatively,
glue a length of ribbon to the ends of the ruler for a hanger.
