With this jewelry-making project, kids can make bead necklaces and redesign them daily.

| Safety pins
Assortment of beads Leather cord Hooked metal clasps (available at craft supply or bead stores) | |

| Instructions: | |
| 1. | To make the safety pin charms, open the clasps of each pin, slip one or more beads over the point and close the clasp. Make several charms, such as one with a single clay tube bead and another with a succession of smaller plastic beads. |
| 2. | For a long necklace, cut a length of leather cord that can be slipped over your child's head when tied. Then, thread the cord through the loop joints of the beaded safety pins. |
| 3. | For a choker style, attach an ordinary hook clasp to a short length of cord. String on the charms, then put one end of the cord around the small, closed end of the clasp. Make a loop on the other end of the cord and close the clasp around it. To redesign this necklace, just open and close the safety pins and slip on a new set of beads. |
Variations
Kids can use the same technique to make a charm bracelet,
or exchange friendship pins to wear on their shoelaces.
