If your child is voracious for vipers, this recycled reptile, created by the Clement family of Chester, Virginia, and a runner-up in our 2002 FamilyFun Craft Contest (featured in the March 2002 issue), is an easy keeper with undeniable charm.

| What you need: | |
| Metal bottle caps (our snake took 100)
A wooden block Hammer Large nail Tapestry needle 2-foot length of red yarn A cork Tacky glue Beads or buttons for eyes | |
| Seasons: Rainy day, Year round | |
| Materials: beads, bottle caps, string | |
| Instructions: | |
| 1. | To start, one by one, set each bottle cap right side up on the wooden block and use the hammer and nail to make a hole in the center of it. Then thread the needle with the yarn, tie a knot at the opposite end, and string the caps onto the yarn. |
| 2. | For the head, first hammer a pilot hole lengthwise through the cork, then thread the yarn through. (Tip: You may need pliers to pull the needle all the way through.) |
| 3. | Knot the yarn, leaving an extra 2 inches for the snake's tongue, then trim the excess yarn. Finally, glue on the beads or buttons for the critter's eyes. |
