| Seasons: Rainy day, Spring, Summer | |
| Materials: nature objects | |
| Instructions: | |
| 1. | Use a pencil to draw a hairline around one of the jugs, about two thirds up from the bottom, then cut away the top part of the head with scissors, saving the excess plastic for decoration. |
| 2. | Cut a nose and ears from the leftover plastic. |
| 3. | For the eyes, start with two milk caps. Then cut two white circles from a lid, making them just smaller than the caps. Using markers, draw an iris and pupil onto each circle, then attach the circles to the caps with foam tape. |
| 4. | Cut a mouth from a plastic lid, then tape all the facial features to the jug. |
| 5. | Cut off the top of the second jug so that its an inch or so taller than the first . Line the second jug with cheesecloth, letting it extend over the sides. To keep the cloth flat and in place, spray it lightly with water. Sprinkle a very thin layer of peat moss over the cheesecloth in the jug, then cover the peat moss completely with grass seed. |
| 6. | In the bowl, mix 6 cups of peat moss with 1 cup of water until the peat moss is consistently moist. |
| 7. | Cover the grass seed in the second jug with a layer of wet peat moss, packing it down well. Keep adding wet peat moss until it just reaches the top of the jug. |
| 8. | Pack the peat moss well, then gather and twist the cheesecloth around the peat moss ball, tying it with twine. Pour water into the first jug until its one-third full, then lower the ball into the jug, seed end up. The ball should peek over the hairline. |
| 9. | In a sunny spot, place the head on top of an overturned margarine tub neck. Generously spray the top of the head with water and repeat twice a day until the grass sprouts (7 to 14 days). After that, add water to the jug as needed to keep the peat moss moist. |
