This clever homemade ribbon dispenser makes it a cinch for kids to lend a hand decorating your holiday gift boxes. Plus, it doubles as a convenient storage place for wrapping paper scraps, gift tags, and tape.
| Prep Time: Under 1 hour | |
| What you need: | |
| Cardboard box with a cover (the kind shoes or work boots
come in)
Gift wrap scraps Scissors or a craft knife Glue or tape Wooden dowel (3/8 inch wide and cut 2 inches longer than the width of the box) | |
| Seasons: Birthday, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa | |
| Materials: cardboard, paper, ribbon | |
| Instructions: | |
| 1. | Have your child decorate the outside of the box by gluing or taping on pieces of festive gift wrap. |
| 2. | Make matching holes in opposite sides of the box to fit the dowel (a parent's job). Insert the dowel through one hole partway into the box, then slide on reels of decorating ribbon and push the dowel end out the opposite hole. Wrap a rubber band around each end of the dowel to keep it from sliding back through, if needed. |
| 3. | Make holes in the box front and thread the ribbon ends through them. |
