Let birthday or slumber party guests create their own favors -- wearable mementos featuring the names and faces of their friends.
| Prep Time: About 1 hour | |
| What you need: | |
| Prewashed cotton or cotton-mix T-shirts
Sheets of cardboard Potato and knife Stiff paper plates Fabric paints Fabric paint tubes and markers | |
| Seasons: Year round | |
| Materials: fabric, paints | |
| Instructions: | |
| 1. | Before the party, prepare the shirts for decorating by stamping blank faces on them. Begin by inserting a piece of cardboard inside each shirt. Chop a potato in half (a parent's job) to create an oval or circular stamp. Spread thin layers of fabric paint onto the plates and press the potato stamp in. Test the stamp on newspaper first, then on each shirt have your child stamp as many ovals as you?ll have party guests. Let the paint dry. |
| 2. | At the party, set out the prestamped shirts (with the cardboard inserts still inside), paint tubes, and markers. Kids can move from one shirt to the next, using the supplies to create a self-portrait on one of the faces with their autograph beneath. |
| 3. | Let the paint dry and heat-set according to the package directions. |
Variations
For a one-of-a-kind troop leader?s, coach?s, or teacher?s
gift, set out an extra shirt and have all the kids add their
faces and names to the pre-stamped circles.
