Baking Christmas cookies will be even more of a treat when the chef is outfitted in a handsome holiday apron.
| Prep Time: Under 1 hour | |
| What you need: | |
| Large potato
Carrot Craft knife Pencil Two flat bowls Red and green fabric paint Paper towels Plain white apron | |
| Seasons: Christmas | |
| Materials: fabric, food items, paints | |
| Instructions: | |
| 1. | To begin, cut the potato in half (an adult's job). Use a pencil to lightly draw a holly leaf on the potato's surface. Cut away the parts of the potato around the design and blot it on a paper towel. To prepare the carrot, cut off the tapered end. |
| 2. | Pour a thin layer of green paint into a bowl and press the potato into the paint. Practice printing a few designs on scrap paper. |
| 3. | Next, stamp a pattern of leaves to form a wreath on the front of the apron. For holly berries, dip the cut end of the carrot into the red paint (in a separate bowl) and dot the wreath with red prints. |
Variations
Use this same technique to accent cloth napkins or a
tablecloth with holly prints or a wreath pattern. Or create
holiday T-shirts or sweatshirts for the whole family.
