Summer Cooler

full star full star full star full star empty star Rated by 5 members

When the temperature rises this summer, your child can keep his cool with an ice pack in his favorite shade -- of color, that is.

Prep Time: Under 1 hour
What you need:
 quart-size, freezer-safe ziplock bag
corn syrup
food coloring
Seasons: Summer
Materials: food items, ice, plastic bags
Instructions:
1.Fill a quart-size freezer-safe ziplock bag with corn syrup and mix in food coloring until the desired shade is reached. Carefully squeeze out any air, then close the bag and seal it inside a second ziplock bag.
2.Store your homemade ice pack in the freezer. There it will remain pliable, ready to ward off the summer heat, add a cool twist to a game of hot potato -- or soothe a skinned knee.

How inventive -- it's a ready-to-use and natural ice pack! Just don't forget to double-triple-quadruple seal the bag. The thought of dyed corn syrup being tossed around by my kids in a game of hot potato sort of makes me queasy at the possibilities. :(
