| Red, black, yellow, and green felt
Scissors Glue stick 3 wooden paint stirrers Tempera paint Wood glue Pushpin Fishing line | |
| Seasons: Kwanzaa | |
| Materials: fabric, paints, string, wood | |
| Instructions: | |
| 1. | Determine and cut out shapes from the felt to represent the seven principles of Kwanzaa -- Creativity, Purpose, Faith, Unity, Self-Determination, Responsibility, and Cooperative Economics. Mark each with the first letter of the principle it stands for. Cut the letters from felt and apply them, along with any other details, with the glue stick. |
| 2. | To form the hanger, paint three wooden paint stirrers red, black and green. When dry, stack the stirrers so their tips fan out like the spokes of a wheel. Use the wood glue to fix them into position. Let the glue dry, then use a pushpin to poke a hole one inch from each of the six ends. Make a seventh hole through the center, where the three stirrers cross. Thread a foot-long piece of fishing line through each hole and tie a knot at the top. |
| 3. | Poke small holes through the tops of the felt shapes and tie them to the seven fishing lines. |
| 4. | To suspend the mobile, thread three 2-foot pieces of fishing line under the crossed stirrers. Each end of these lines should be threaded up through one of the six V's formed by the crossed stirrers. Gather the six strands and secure with a knot just above the center point of the stirrers. |
