Here, paint teams up with a material normally used to keep it at bay -- masking tape -- yielding eggs with surprising textures and colors. Click here for more Easter Egg Decorating ideas.

| Styrofoam or plastic eggs
Masking tape Paintbrush Acrylic paint Paper towels Alien Encounter: Markers Googly eyes Felt Pipe cleaners Toothpicks Glue Skewer Cardboard tube Aluminum foil | |
| Seasons: Easter | |
| Materials: paints, styrofoam | |
| Instructions: | |
| 1. | For each egg, cover the entire surface with 1-inch pieces of masking tape, overlapping the pieces and laying them on as smoothly as possible. |
| 2. | Working one area at a time, use the brush to dab paint onto
the egg, then rub it in with a damp paper towel. Repeat until the
egg is covered and is the color you want. Set it aside to dry,
about 5 to 10 minutes. |
| 3. | Take your tape-and-paint eggs further by creating an
Alien Encounter. To use pipe cleaner legs or antennae,
you'll need to start with a Styrofoam egg. |
| 4. | For each appendage, use a toothpick to poke through the
tape and make a small hole in the foam. Add a dab of glue, then
insert a coiled pipe cleaner (we wrapped ours around a
skewer). |
| 5. | For some out-of-this-world-looking stands, we wrapped
1-inch sections of cardboard tube in aluminum foil. |
