Inspired by the movie: Little Mermaid

With seven children plus the whole undersea city of Atlantica to look after, it's easy to fathom why King Triton wanted Ariel to stay close to home. Nonetheless, the little mermaid's curiosity got the better of her, and she fell prey to the villainous Ursula. Just as the sea witch was about to turn Ariel into a polyp, King Triton agreed to take his daughter's place, and Ursula gleefully claimed his crown. But in the end, thanks to Prince Eric, the royal topper is restored to its rightful owner. Modeled after King Triton's bright yellow crown, this Father's Day headband is perfectly fitted for the devoted father in your human household.

You'll need:

  • Crown template
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Yellow craft foam (12- by 17 1/2-inch sheet)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glitter glue (optional)
Instructions:

1. Print the template and cut out the pieces.

2. Trace the half crown template onto yellow craft foam. Then flip the template over, place it right along side the tracing as shown, and trace around it again to complete the second half of the crown face. Cut out the crown. Step 2

3. Trace the strap templates onto yellow foam and cut out the pieces.

4. Fold strap A in half, as shown. Starting 1/2 inch from the strap end, cut 3 slits, spaced an inch apart, in the foam. Glue the opposite end of the strap to one side of the crown, overlapping the ends an inch or so. Step 4

5. Glue the wide end of strap B to the other side of the crown.

6. Have your child decorate the crown with glitter glue, if he likes, and let it dry completely.

7. Finally, weave the end of strap B up through the first slit in strap A, then down through the second slit, and back up through the third. Loosen or tighten the joined straps as needed to fit Dad's head. Step 7
