What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that Grease, based on the movie of the same name, has a story mode that can be completed by a single player in less than an hour. This is a very short and surprisingly repetitious game. It mirrors the central themes of the movie, including dating and jealousy, as well as cheating in activities to achieve goals. Some of the mini-games involve a modicum of violence, but no characters are shown to be seriously hurt. Multiplayer requires multiple Wii remotes.

  • Families can talk about relationships between teen-aged boys and girls. Are they depicted here with anything approaching authenticity?
  • Families can also discuss good and bad role models. Do you think the characters in the game are good or bad? Do you think the characters in the film fall into either of those categories?

GREASE is essentially a series of mini-games that features backgrounds and characters from the 1978 movie of the same name. It is a party game that features many songs from the movie, with lyrics moving along the bottom of the screen so that players can sing along. The mini-games involve waving the Wii remote around in specific gestures, memory games, and challenges that have players mashing buttons to match on-screen prompts.

This game is very short and won't be much of a challenge for more experienced gamers. The music is fun and the clips from the movie are nice, but the mini-games are a bit repetitious. Players will end up doing the same matching motions in several of the games, which essentially is mirroring a string of motions or commands shown onscreen with the remote commands. Songs play in the background and the games use the song's timing with iconic characters from the movie singing and dancing to the recognizable themes, but some of these motion-matching games just seem to drone on. The only break from this is when the game moves to a sports-themed mini-game or a car race. Even as a party game, Grease will have limited appeal.
