Music Review: "Can't Be Tamed" (CD single)

Sexy, raw song is too racy for Miley's youngest fans.

What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that Miley is shouting to the world that she isn't a little girl anymore. The song offers a cocky, sexy attitude and a few "hells." The video shows a new Miley that is sexy, sultry, and definitely not the innocent and sweet Hannah Montana anymore.

  • Families can talk about what happens when a star or character changes. How does it make you feel? Do you like the new image of Miley and her new sound? Talk about the differences between image and reality and how that affects young fans. How can they learn to separate the two?
  • Do you think that the new image being pushed or pursued by Miley Cyrus is a good one? Do you think she feels pressure to grow up too fast? Or to set herself apart from other teen stars, or just Hannah Montana?

To promote her upcoming third full-length album and her new image, Miley Cyrus releases the title track and first single, "CAN'T BE TAMED." In more ways than one, it lets Miley shout from the rooftops, or um, cage bars, that she's growing up and sprouting wings -- literally. It's a powerful, techno-rock track that defies Miley's typical bubblegum-pop flavor and takes on an edgier, sexier sound.

" Can't Be Tamed" is catchy, raw, and sexy, and lets Cyrus show her powerhouse skills with some help from hot pants, heavy makeup, and a few hip grinds. It's Joan Jett meets Lady GaGa, all wrapped up in leather, feathers, and techno-rock. In the face of critics and skeptics, Miley shows she can handle the new image and edgier sound that she's aiming for. Question is: Can her tweeny-bopper, Hannah-loving fans? The fact is, Miley is still Hannah Montana, and she's only 17. Yeah she can sing, she's got lasting potential, and this new song shows that. But her rush to grow up and sexify herself comes a little too soon. The video shows a too-sexy Miley acting a little cuckoo and cocky, artistically cool, but too much for her present fan base.
