What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that RADIO DISNEY JAMS VOL. 12 is a collection of clean tunes from some of the brightest young musical acts around. The songs share one important thing: they all lack worrisome content and are OK for kids.
- Families can talk about the qualities that all of these artists share -- and the things that make each unique. For instance, what attracts kids to both a rock band like Daughtry and a more mellow singer songwriter like Colbie Callait?
- Discuss compilation albums. Do you like buying popular songs together on one album, or do you prefer to purchase songs individually?
The latest Radio Disney compilation, Volume 12, features a who's-who of all the hottest young musical acts on today's charts. The CD includes two songs each by Nick Jonas, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus, with additional singles by Justin Bieber, the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, Daughtry, Owl City, Allstar Weekend, Mitchel Musso, Colbie Callait, and more. While these stars all have their own personal stories and styles, each shares one common theme: clean lyrics.
As with any compilation of music by various artists, some tracks are stronger than others. Highlights here are Chris Daughtry's rock-solid vocals in "No Surprise," Nick Jonas's solo foray sans the other JoBros in "Who I Am," and Owl City's dreamy single "Fireflies." More tepid tunes include tracks from Miley Cyrus ("Party in the U.S.A.") and Selena Gomez ("Falling Down"), neither of whom possesses the vocal chops of their peers.
