What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that My World 2.0 represents more of the squeaky clean music from the prince of bubblegum pop, Justin Bieber. The album's only crime is in its occasionally extreme sticky-sweetness.

  • Families can talk about how Justin Bieber may be able to show that he's growing up without crossing the line into adult-content territory.
  • While his peers like Miley Cyrus are shedding their younger images and opting for more mature partnerships, how can Justin also demonstrate that he's getting older without excluding younger audiences?

Bieber's back with MY WORLD 2.0 -- the follow-up CD to the crazy popular debut album My World from the reigning prince of bubblegum pop. Though the album includes a guest performance from the decidedly adult rapper Ludacris, Bieber doesn't stray from the squeaky clean path that he forged on his first album. Like the earlier record, Justin spends every song talking about the (mostly) ups and downs of puppy love. The classicly clean lyrics include: "'Cause baby when you're with me it's like an angel came by and took me to heaven / 'Cause when I stare in your eyes it couldn't be better." It comes as no surprise, then, that the album includes no swearing or adult content, beyond a couple of benign references to kissing.

Though Bieber's a bit older now, his vocal tone hasn't yet changed -- making this record sound extremely similar to the one before. He showcases the same strong pipes again here, blowing it out on a few songs in particular: "Overboard" (with guest vocals from teen singer Jessica Jarrell), "Somebody to Love," and "U Smile," the album's first single. To be sure, the end result is a little formulaic -- but die-hard Bieber fans will be thrilled about having a whole new album of songs based around Justin's signature sound.
