What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know in general this is a fun, frivolous
song about hitting the clubs and partying with friends. But
several references to alcohol (including brushing teeth with
Jack Daniels) may lead listeners to the conclusion that in
order to party hearty, you need to get drunk. On the single,
Ke$ha has run-ins with police and drunken groping men, while
bragging that she won't be home all night.
TIK TOK is Ke$ha's debut single, although the 22-year old
singer-songwriter came into the public spotlight earlier this
year thanks to her collaboration with Flo Rida on his hit
single "Right Round." The brash and bold songstress has her
first album due out in early 2010, but this single has topped
the charts for several months. Recounting her exploits of hard
partying, flirting, and just general misbehavior, "TIk Tok" is
all about not letting anything get in the way of a good time.
Ke$ha has proved she has a strong, powerful voice that's backed up by a devil-may-care attitude and swagger that's usually reserved for the boys of hip-hop. This was immediately evident on her world debut "Right Round" collaboration. But "Tik Tok" fails to capture all the high-octane personality that Ke$ha previously brought to the table. Over-production is most obviously to blame, as Ke$ha's voice is consistently garbled and digitized thanks to someone with a heavy hand on the autotune button. The bold, in-your-face attitude is still apparent on this track, but Ke$ha's clear and distinct vocal abilities aren't there to carry the song far enough to stand out from the pack.
