What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that these songs are tween-safe. There
is nothing to worry about beyond some mild innuendo, and the
tie-in to the TV show. They have been compiled to support a
good cause: the National Breast Cancer Association.
Families can talk about the value of artistic endeavors created
to support good causes. Do you feel good about buying products
like this? Are you more likely to contribute this way than to
donate money to the organization directly? Why?
From the TV show One Tree Hill comes ONE TREE HILL, VOLUME 2, a soundtrack compiled to support a good cause. In fact, it is cleverly the result of a storyline: After Peyton discovers that her mother has breast cancer, the community gathers to stage a concert and record an album to raise money for cancer research. That story transcends into real life, and the album is now available, with a large portion of the proceeds to be donated to the National Breast Cancer Association.
Gavin DeGraw, who wrote the One Tree Hill theme song, is a driving force on the album. High points are Citizen Cope's "Son's Gonna Rise" and Feeder's "Feeling a Moment." Jimmy Eat World is wonderful on "23" and "I've Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song)" by Fall Out Boy should get bonus points for the title alone. Haley even makes a reprise appearance, belting out "Halo." The overall ambiance may verge on angst-filled and sappy at times, perhaps appropriate for this album supporting this particular cause.
