What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that kids who have seen and enjoyed the movie are the most likely to play this CD -- otherwise, there's not much of interest for them.

Families can talk about whether the songs that reflect native cultures sound different? Try to identify the instruments. Also, can you sense the mood of a song even if it is in another language?

Disney's BROTHER BEAR movie is set in the Pacific Northwest amidst the Ice Age culture of the Inuit. And while some tracks like "Look Through My Eyes," "No Way Out," and "I'm On My Way" could prop the soundtrack of any number of movies about a young boy's self-discovery, others are meant to evoke the Inuit culture. For example, "Transformation" is sung in the Inuit language by the Bulgarian Women's Choir, "Great Spirits" is belted out with enthusiasm by the incomparable Tina Turner, and the instrumentals, "Three Brothers" and "Awakes as a Bear" give a welcome sense of Native American instruments, rhythms, and cadences.

Perhaps the most appealing moments of Phil Collins' soundtrack for Brother Bear are the musical evocations of that time and place.
