What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that like most Disney products, this CD
is squeaky-clean and merchandised within an inch of its life.
The focus is on Christmas, so if you don't celebrate this
holiday, you're better off with something else.
Families can talk about the wonderful musicians who play on the
instrumental tracks, and ponder why they aren't given any
credit in the meager liner notes.
On CHEETAH-LICIOUS CHRISTMAS, the Cheetah Girls -- Adrienne Bailon (Chanel), Sabrina Bryan (Dorinda), and Kiely Williams (Aquanette) -- give it their all on 13 family-safe Christmas-themed originals and old favorites. A couple of romantic-yearning songs ("Last Christmas" and "All I Want for Christmas Is You") are the closest the Cheetahs get to sexy, and a few Spanish lyrics on "Feliz Navidad" the closest to multicultural. There's nothing here for kids whose families don't do the Christmas thing, and there's also not much in the CD packaging for the Cheetahs' fan base to enjoy -- filled instead with ads. But the songs are fun: perky, family-safe, and well performed.
Produced with the usual excellent Disney standards (as well as its usual inexcusable lack of credit given to participating musicians), these songs sparkle with a vivacious sense of fun. The girls' voices blend nicely, and the lead vocals are mixed high enough for even very young children to understand the lyrics and sing along. Younger kids, especially girls, will find a lot to like on Cheetah-licious Christmas. Parents and older siblings will find holiday pop that's a little bland but produced well enough to elicit at least a bit of enjoyment.
