What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that this animal variety show features
footage of animals performing tricks, true stories about animal
heroes, and educational material about caring for different
types of critters. Young viewers will learn a lot about
animals' needs and other related issues, including rescue
efforts.
Families can talk about animals and their needs, particularly
those related to family life. How do pets' needs balance with
their owners' needs? What happens if a family can't take good
care of their pet? What services exist to protect animals?
Families can also talk about the featured animal acts. How do
you think the dogs and cats and birds learned those tricks?
Could your pets do anything like that?
Hosted by comedian/actor Mark Curry, ANIMAL TAILS is a lighthearted variety series that showcases the talents and unique stories of animals from across the country. Pets and their owners take the stage in front of a live audience, and performances run the gamut, from dogs that sing and howl to cats that do back flips and parrots that tell jokes. Other segments feature animal experts who educate viewers on the characteristics of different species, true stories about heroic animals, tips on training and grooming, and more.
While Animal Tales doesn't exactly break new TV ground, young viewers (especially Animal Planet fans) will probably be entertained -- just remind them not to try the tricks they see on TV with the family pet. They'll also learn handy pet-care information and "meet" some positive role models who are making a difference in the animal kingdom. Just don't be surprised if the show's sometimes-corny tone sends older teens and tweens hunting for bigger game on other channels.
