What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that this show deals, albeit lightly, with the potential end of the world -- the moon has split apart, and no one knows what could happen. The series features a couple of relationships that might raise some eyebrows -- particularly the one between the 16-year-old and his older next-door neighbor. Plus, the main character's husband has run off, leaving her with their two kids.

Families can talk about what they'd do if they knew the world was going to end. Are there things that you've regretted not pursuing? Any goals you hope to achieve but haven't yet? Is it really possible to live each day as if it's your last?

In the quirky dramedy THREE MOONS OVER MILFORD, the residents of a small Vermont town decide to live like there's no tomorrow after a cosmic explosion splits the moon into three pieces. The show centers on the Davis family. After her husband takes off (his company is investigating him for embezzlement), Laura Davis (Elizabeth McGovern), is left penniless, with two teenage children: Lydia (Theresa Celentano), who has become a Wiccan, and Alex (Sam Murphy), who's dating his older next-door neighbor. Laura takes a job with local attorney/committed bachelor Mack (Rob Boltin); other townsfolk making waves include ambitious, devious real estate agent Michelle Graybar (Nora Dunn of Saturday Night Live ) and pretty Claire (Samantha Quan), the neighbor who caught Alex's eye.

Three Moons Over Milford is an appealing show that's acted very well, especially by McGovern. She comes across as a loving mother who tackles life's challenges with aplomb. Teenage viewers will relate to the issues Lydia and Alex deal with, including desiring more autonomy and trust from their mother. Perhaps a bit too quirky-for-quirky's sake, Milford is nevertheless a well-written show that the whole family will enjoy.
