What Parents Should Know
Parents need to know that Eamon is a woman-hater, and an
inarticulate one at that. The edited version of this CD is
nearly impossible to find, so don't count on your teens ever
hearing it.
Families can talk about what makes some men turn to sexist
humor -- could it be that they are really insecure bullies?
Eamon apparently wants us all to know that he is a sex-obsessed, misogynist, bullying moron, and proud of it! On I DON'T WANT YOU BACK, Eamon enthusiastically embraces an idiotic double-standard when it comes to the "Ho," a concept with which he is obsessed. He loves them, but when his girlfriend acts like one it breaks his heart. He can screw around, but she can't. And though the music is somewhat good, with classic-sounding soul arrangements, Eamon is a terrible singer. He has a thin, squeaky voice that tends to stray off-key and seems most comfortable when settled into a boring monotone. And then there are the songs themselves, musically derivative and bland at best. But all of that would be forgivable if there were anything redeeming about the lyrics. There isn't.
Musically, the CD is actually a little bit interesting. Strong rhythm tracks are the backbone of soul arrangements that would work beautifully if the front man could sing, or had anything of value to say. Unfortunately, the songs are clumsily written, blatantly misogynistic, and lacking any redeeming cleverness or artistry. This would be a good CD to skip.
